My final fling as a 'serving' officer involved a short trip to Birmingham and then a long, fast, muddy 12km cross country course with Team GlosPol. Staying in the
top half of finishers, running with my training pal Pete, no rain and being less stiff than usual afterwards, made it a good milestone in a less-than-glittering running career. My minor contribution to an excellent
men's team performance was a bonus.
