A Grand Day Out
On my last day at leisure, Tom and I biked to the 'top' of Lemnos over the mountains and dropped down on off-road trails to Gomati Beach. An old army tank sits pointing out to sea, so obviously we clambered all over it. The ride back, cut up the valleys past tumbledown farms, vines, goat herds and old toothless ladies dressed in black. A brilliant ride.

South of the Island
Another afternoon on the bike took me along the coast road and over the mountains to Thanos, where I rested on a deserted white sand beach. Then a run along the Southern road to Kontias where I climbed up to some windmills on a hill. I used the geography of the mountains to work out a route back into the interior, along dirt roads, passing a freshwater lake and climbing up again to Aglos Dhmhtrios where I turned West again for the long run back to Myrina. On route I passed a tortoise and the obligatory Greek man on a donkey.

Road Trip By Bike
Heading North I took the road to Sardes, then climbed on to Dafni and Katalakos for a view of the North coast framed by the giant sand dunes there. Dropping back the whole South coast opened up and then I turned towards the late evening sun, I got the lovely silhouette views of ancient windmills against sparkly sea. A lovely satisfying afternoon off on my own, enjoying creation and thinking about friends and deep stuff.
