Round The Bay

After a fun day-off morning in the harness, flying the spinnaker on the RS500, I cycled around to the North to a little fishing harbour.

Bike Guiding

This is the view from the radio masts hill, looking back towards Myrina and the hotel. This week I am bike guiding in the mornings and sailing in the afternoons - a really nice combination giving variety and a chance to escape the hotel and ride some roads less travelled. I am also learning some bike maintenance skills to go with my newly acquired board repair skills. With big onshore winds and waves, only kayaks and SUPs are allowed out at present, so I managed to catch some waves too. A three hour ride tomorrow morning awaits!

Sunset Tonight

This was this evening's sunset. Just before, I got to see it from the sea, travelling South down the coast to a little fisherman's harbour where we leave the RIBs overnight. Mount Atos on the horizon, the Sun dipping behind it. Then a short walk back through the woods, along a beach and home through a beach bar. It's the best commute I have ever had.

The Bells

After an exciting morning harnessed into a windsurfer, enjoying some good gusty conditions on my day off, Jake and I cycled to the castle, exploring the tunnels and then had an ice cream by the harbour. We used up the rest of the day ringing the bells at a church overlooking the port, then riding on to the Southern tip of the island, via the Mark Warner resort (new kit this year ~ lots of it). Then it was presentation night back at the hotel.

Stormy Skies

This amazing sunset was the prelude to an electrical storm that was more exciting than usual because I was moving a RIB up the coast to a safer mooring, while lightning flashed behind the hills. It was good to get onto dry land again.

Day Off

I joined the bikers for an early ride up to a church atop a mountain, passing a shepherd on his horse near the summit. The views were awesome 360 degree panoramas of the whole of Lemnos. The rest of my day off was spend sailing a Laser, windsurfing and tandem windsurfing on the Gemini. Oh, and I even caught a wave or two  SUPing on the morning swell.

No Wind Day

It's been a great week so far, doing a bit of everything from powerboats to dinghies. I also ran two SUP clinics. The beach team are all friendly and helpful, making learning the ropes enjoyable. The days are all long and quite physical, lifting boats, boards and fuel. HOWEVER, we're in the sun, by the sea and with pleasant guests. I enjoyed getting involved in beginner sailing, fixing stuff and generally getting stuck in to the job. Last evening a few of us had a beer up by the castle, looking North over the lights of the resort. Tomorrow is my day off.

My Office Today

Start of the day from the 'tower' overlooking the sailing area - before the rush.

Can Leisure Become Work?

A new job role in a different country: This evening I am off to the airport ahead of flying out to Greece tomorrow as a 'Watersports Instructor' for the rest of the season. Amazingly, I am going back to the very resort we were holidaying at in May, so I know many of the staff already. This opportunity to experience the new career that I have been working towards for some years, is fantastic. The place looks like this
